Pen & watercolor wash on 4x6" Aquabee (90 lbs.) paper. Red-breasted nuthatch reference photo by Dave Slaughter... part of a monthly pen & ink forum challenge at wetcanvas.com. It's not really *quite* this red IRL, but I'm too lazy to re-scan... or do anything more with the background. Sorry for the late response - we have been on the road to Spain... Just in case you didn't solve the crossword clue introducing the Hawaiian Goose it's also the Nene (pronounced Nay-nay for the bird and rhyming with either 'hen' or 'seen' depending where you live for the river part of the clue) Thanks for faving the goose - really appreciated Jen!
